BERNARD GRIESE
(1897 – 1964) SS Standartenfuhrer, commander of SS-Polizei Regiment ‘Griese’, Polizei-Schutzen-Batallion 323 and SS Polizei Reg. 14 with which he administered the deportation of Jews from Marseilles. A Knights Cross recipient
He commanded a battalion and then a police regiment (of the Ordnungspolizei ), alternately on the Eastern Front , in France and Yugoslavia . He notably participated in the Marseille roundup ofJanuary 1943After the war, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison in Yugoslavia (in 1949) where he remained incarcerated until 1953.
