Brief description..very nice rare lot
content war-date T.L.S.s, 3pp. total large 4to., “Headquarters”, Dec. 14, 1940 and Jan. 16, 1941, both sent to “Kummler”.
(A try of translation) but two great letters with KESSELRING signatures…
In part: “…From Berlin I received your letter. For the fifth time in this war…I did not hear of the hero’s death of a person who meant something to me and I didn’t know in this case that your son did service in the Luftwaffe…due to our comradeship with you I could have spent some time with him…I have seen many of these attacks…the crews of the fighters have the souls of the real fliers…you get harder when you see the many deaths over many months…nevertheless I can feel your pain…I will again try to find out more regarding Waler…even though I believe he was no longer alive…the impossible could be possible…” with a telegram to Kummler’s father advising him of the death of his son, and three A.L.S.s by a “Fritz von Dessloch” also mentioning the death.

(1885 – 1960) Field Marshal in the Luftwaffe and at Nuremburg was tried for war crimes. Death sentence commuted due to ill health.
