GEN/HANS-GEORG HILDEBRANDT/(1896 – 1967) German general commander of the 21st Panzer Division in North Africa and the 715th Infantry Division in Italy held in British captivity for over two years until his release in 1947. a photo postcard showing Hildebrandt in uniform shaking hands with another uniformed officer. Hildebrandt signs at the bottom in blue ink adding the inscription: ‘Italia Winter 44/45′. Very good.
The 21st Panzer Division was a German armoured division best known for its role in the battles of the North African Campaign from 1941–1943 during World War II when it was one of the two armoured divisions making up the Deutsches Afrikakorps
