ERNST UDET AND WILLY MESSERSCHMITT Autograph
ERNST UDET AND WILLY MESSERSCHMITT
ERNST UDET (1896 – 1941) German aviator and combat flyer. Flying a Fokker D.III, he scored his first victory on 18 March 1916 in a lone attack against 22 French aircraft, later racking up 61 more victories. Udet was the highest-scoring German ace to survive World War I. 6 x 4.25 in. b/w, ca. 1935, a view of a Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun, boldly signed by Udet, also signed by WILLY MESSERSCHMITT (1898-1978), German aircraft designer and manufacturer, responsible for the creation of the Messerschmitt Bf 109, Me 209, and the first jet-powered fighter to enter service — the Messerschmitt Me 262. Fine condition. Udet, in charge of the Luftwaffe’s development section, flew a prototype Me-109 and was so enamored of it, he ordered 35,000 of the aircraft.
