SS GRUPPENFUHRER ERNST KALTENBRUNNER SIGNED DOCUMENT
ERNST KALTENBRUNNER (1903 – 1946) SS-Obergruppenfuhrer who headed the RSHA (Gestapo and Kripo) and SD, replacing Reinhard Heydrich. Executed following conviction for multiple war crimes. Fine content and association on official letterhead as Higher SS and Police Leader, Vienna, Aug. 1, 1939 to JOSEF BURCKEL (1895-1944), Gauleiter of the Saar Palatinate and Vienna who promoted anti-Jewish decrees and seized Jewish property, also deporting nearly 50,000 Jews to their deaths. Kaltenbrunner asks Burckel to purchase bonds with Swiss francs seized along with other property from Austrian Jews who had either been deported or who had fled the country. In part: ‘…I am sending you a note from the Landerbank A.G. Vienna…These are the securities of the 6 1/2% Tyrolean state hypothecaries that are still in the Landerbank’s custody account…which can now be exchanged at the cheapest rate of 3%…I ask that you return the enclosure so that I may arrange further details with the Landerbank…’ Marginal file holes, else near fine. Kaltenbrunner and Burckel had an ongoing correspondence at this time as vast funds seized from Jews were invested widely or sent directly to the Reichsbank.
