Alwin Boerst (born October 20, 1910 in Osterode am Harz , † March 30, 1944 at Iaşi , Romania ) was a ” Stuka ” pilot of the German Air Force in World War II and carrier of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross .
After operations during the Battle of Britain , his squadron was relocated to the Mediterranean and Boerst was squadron squadron of the 3rd Squadron of Stuka Squadron 2. During the Balkan campaign his squad attacked targets of the Metaxas Line and targets in southern Greece, before he 22 missions flew around Crete during the airborne battle . Here Boerst sunk on May 23, 1941, the destroyers HMS Kelly and HMS Kashmir the Royal Navy

On March 30, 1944, Boerst’s machine became his 1,061. Enemy flights near Iaşi, Romania, were hit and shot down by Soviet flak fire . Boerst and his radio operator Oberfeldwebel Ernst Filius were killed. On May 4, 1944, Filius was posthumously awarded the Knight’s Cross, Alwin Boerst was awarded the Knights Cross on April 6, and promoted to Major .
