Willy Liebel (1897 – 1945) was Lord Mayor of Nuremberg from 1933, his term of office was marked by permanent conflict with Streicher, the coarse agitator and self-proclaimed “Führer of Franconia” who also was a Nuremberg resident. Even after Streicher’s removal as Gauleiter of Franconia by a court of honour in 1940, Liebel continued to grapple with Streicher’s protege, Karl Holz.
